Description
St. John Bosco (1815–1888), commonly called Don Bosco, was an Italian Catholic priest whose life’s work centered on the education and spiritual care of poor and disadvantaged young people.
He developed an approach to education emphasizing reason, religion, kindness, and personal relationships rather than harsh punishment. His work eventually gave rise to the Salesians of Don Bosco, whose educational and missionary work spread throughout the world. The Vatican continues to describe the Salesian tradition particularly in terms of educating and guiding young people toward Christian holiness. Vatican
This icon presents Don Bosco simply, in his black clerical clothing with hands folded peacefully before him and a halo surrounding his head.
Devotional themes: children and young people, education, teachers, fatherhood and mentorship, perseverance, joyful Christian life.
